Week Three: Peace

I hope you had a peaceful week last week. I did since I was on vacation all week hence no posts. Week Four coming right up.

Week Two: Joy

This week's goal is to eat a new fruit or vegetable every day. Today's fruit: papaya. Here's a video on how to cut a papaya plus extra info on the papaya.



This week's Fruit of the Spirit is joy. This week's verses for mediation and memorization is:
Psalm 100:1
Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands!

Here's the rest of Psalm 100 for added meditation.
Serve the LORD with gladness;
Come before His presence with singing.
Know that the LORD, He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,

For the LORD is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.

Crafts help you learn

Zach and I did one more craft. Per our friend Cherri's suggestion, I drew a man and showed his heart, soul, mind and strength. I must say - doing these little art projects has REALLY helped me learn this verse.

Wednesday: Not-So-Fun Activities

I don't think these activities are bad ideas...just bad for my kids!

1. Fruit and Veggie plate (pictured): Grocery ads come in Wednesday's paper so I cut out pictures of fruit and vegetables. We taped them onto a paper plate. Zach loved identifying all the items but wasn't into putting them on the plate. He was very proud of the final result and wanted to show Dad.

2. Fruit Shuttle: We have some plastic food so I put some of the bigger pieces of fruit and vegetables in a small shopping bag. I took an empty box and put it down the sidewalk. I told Zach to get a piece of fruit from the bag and put it in the box. He did it but then he brought the box back with him and he was done playing. He carried the bag with the fruit around instead and put leaves and sticks in the box. Oh well. At least he could name the fruits in the bag.

Two On Tuesday

1. Cutting up the fruit and veggies increases the likelihood that you'll eat them. I am going to try and remember this tomorrow. I already cut up some red peppers for tomorrow night.

2. Write the verse down helps you memorize it and make the commitment real. Making it into a craft is even better. Zach helped me decorate my verse. I was shocked how much this made a difference.

Fruit of the Spirit: LOVE

I am memorizing and meditating on this verse this week:

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Mark 12:30

I picked this one because I can do motions to it and hopefully teach Zach too.

The first thing I noticed about this verse is that it refers to your heart and soul. I wonder how those are all that different. That's just the first thing I saw. I will do more research on this verse this week and post anything I find.

Week One: Extra with every meal

My goal for the first week of the Fruit-Full project is to eat an extra serving of fruit/vegetables with every meal. Seems easy. Today was the first day. Breakfast was very easy because I never eat fruit or vegetables with breakfast. I ate a banana in addition to my regular meal. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables at lunch so to add an extra serving, I put two large slices of tomatoes on my sandwich - I think that should count. Dinner is hard. I eat different things so it is hard to say that I am eating an "extra" serving of anything. I tried my best to think what I would normally eat and then add something else. I am not convinced that it worked. I'll try again tomorrow.
